Wildlife Philippines

Wildlife Philippines talks about ecosystems, animal and plant species, and environmental issues in different parts of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. It is a collaborative podcast channel of more than 20 Institutes of Environmental Governance which aimed to provide educational trivia and important facts about biodiversity conservation and wildlife protection, an excellent learning aid for teachers and students. Wildlife Philippines is an initiative under the Partnership for Biodiversity Conservation 3 of Tanggol Kalikasan and is being supported by the USAID and the US Department of the Interior, International Technical Assistance Program.

Mindoro Tree Frog

Philippine Mouse Deer

Philippine Mouse Deer or locally known as Pilandok is a small terrestrial mammal endemic to the island of Palawan. Though shy and nocturnal, they are listed as endangered under IUCN as their meat is a popular delicacy and their skin can be used to make leathers. Bangon Monitor Lizard

Hornbills in the Philippines

Crocodiles in the Philippines

Aside from Philippine Crocodile, there is also the Saltwater crocodile which is normally found in coastal waters, mangroves, rivers and large lakes that are connected to the sea. Philippine Palm Civet (Musang)

Philippine Palm Civet is a member of civet family which are carnivorous but also loves to eat fruits. This is the reason why they are living in forest with many fruit trees. Palm civets are also into coffee which made the famous and one of the expensive coffee beans - Kopi Luwak. Unfortunately, this made palm civet vulnerable in addition to forest degradation and hunting. Philippine Warty Pig

Philippine Warty Pig or Sus philippensis is endemic to the country which are remote forest dwellers. They are included in the IUCN Red list as Vulnerable because of its declining population caused by over-hunting, habitat loss and hybridization. Palawan Peacock-Pheasant

Endemic to the island, Palawan Peacock-Pheasant is smaller to others of the same species but has the most interesting color combinations than them. It lives mostly in coastal lowland and deep forests and is considered a Vulnerable species due to its declining habitat. Not only that, it is also subjected to hunting as a pet and for trade. An expert on birds was invited by Palawan State University (PalSU) to join them in this episode and discuss about this peacock-pheasant and the pertinent laws that protects them.
